ICU Medical, Inc. is a leader in the development, manufacture and sale of proprietary, disposable medical connection systems for use in vascular therapy applications. Its devices are designed to protect patients from catheter related bloodstream infections and healthcare workers from exposure to infectious diseases through accidental needlesticks. ICU Medical also produces custom intravenous (I.V.) systems that incorporate its proprietary products into many of those custom I.V. systems. ICU Medical is also a significant manufacturer of critical care medical devices, including catheters, angiography kits and cardiac monitoring systems.
The CLAVE®, an innovative one-piece, needleless I.V. connection device, accounts for approximately 38% of ICU Medical's sales. The CLAVE® offers healthcare providers a combination of safety, ease of use, reliability and cost effectiveness that is superior to any other protective I.V. connector on the market.
Custom I.V. products account for approximately 30% of sales and are becoming an increasing portion of the Company's growth. The Company uses proprietary software for customer orders and order tracking, and innovative systems to coordinate manufacturing of components in the U.S., assembly of components into sets in Mexico and Italy, and distribution of finished products. The result is substantially shorter delivery times and lower costs than other manufacturers of custom medical products can currently offer.
The Company produces its critical care products for Hospira, Inc. These products, excluding custom products, account for approximately 20% of sales and include invasive monitoring devices, such as catheters, cardiac monitoring systems and angiography kits.
Other products introduced in recent years include the SPIROSÔ Closed Male Connector, GenieÔ Closed Vial Access Device and a line of custom I.V. therapy sets specifically designed for use in Oncology, a DyePodÔ Contrast Management System, TEGOÔ Hemodialysis Connector, a new Y-CLAVE connector with integral check valve and the Orbit 90Ô diabetes.
