Chesapeake Corporation is a leading international supplier of value-added specialty paperboard and plastic packaging. We protect and promote the world's great brands in various end-use markets such as pharmaceuticals, alcoholic drinks, confectioneries, specialty chemicals, tobacco, food and beverage. Our customers rely on us for paperboard packaging -- folding cartons, spirally wound composite tubes, leaflets, labels and other paper and paperboard packaging products, as well as plastic packaging -- containers, bottles, preforms and closures. Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia and founded in 1918, Chesapeake employs approximately 5,400 people at 45 manufacturing locations in Europe, North America, Africa and Asia.
We target specific markets that offer faster growth prospects and require sophisticated design, innovative packaging solutions and value-added services. Our primary end-use markets include pharmaceutical and healthcare; international and branded products such as alcoholic drinks, confectioneries and cosmetics; tobacco; and plastic packaging for agrochemicals and other specialty chemicals.
Pharmaceutical and healthcare is our largest market, and the acquisition of Arlington Press, the leading supplier of printed pharmaceutical leaflets in North America, strengthens Chesapeake's presence in North America and further expands our position as a leading global supplier of pharmaceutical packaging. The acquisition will be part of Chesapeake Pharmaceutical Packaging--North America, the U.S. platform for growing Chesapeake's pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging business in North America. Our pan-European network of pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging plants operates under rigorous process controls and conforms to ISO 9001/2 standards and the "Pharmaceutical Supplier Code of Practice". We maintain "Preferred Supplier" status with many of our pharmaceutical and healthcare customers.
