American Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: AFG) is a holding company based in Cincinnati, Ohio with assets of approximately $25.8 billion at December 31, 2007. AFG is engaged primarily in property and casualty insurance ("P&C"), focusing on specialized commercial products for businesses, and in the sale of traditional fixed, indexed and variable annuities and a variety of supplemental insurance products. AFG's purpose is to enable individuals and businesses to manage financial risk using insurance products and services tailored to meet their specific and ever-changing risk exposures. AFG's strategy is to allocate capital to insurance operations which management believes offer a competitive advantage or unique opportunities.

The primary objective of AFG's P&C specialty operations is to achieve solid underwriting profitability while providing excellent service to its policyholders. The Specialty Group is comprised of a highly diversified group of businesses offering a wide range of specialty commercial coverages and is managed by experts in particular lines of business or customer groups. The major sub-groups are: Property and Transportation which includes inland and ocean marine, agricultural-related products, physical damage and liability coverage for buses, trucks and recreational vehicles and other property coverages; Specialty Casualty which includes executive and professional liability, umbrella and excess liability, excess and surplus lines, general liability (primarily for contractor related businesses) and customized programs for small to mid-sized businesses, including social service agencies, and alternative risk programs using agency captives; Specialty Financial which includes fidelity and surety products, trade credit insurance and risk management insurance programs for lending and leasing institutions; and California Workers' Compensation. The Specialty Group writes business in all 50 states primarily through independent agents and brokers.

AFG's Annuity and Supplemental Insurance operations market retirement products, primarily fixed, indexed and variable annuities, and various forms of supplemental insurance. AFG's principal retirement products include traditional tax-deferred annuities sold primarily to employees of educational and other not-for-profit organizations through a network of managing general agents. AFG's supplemental insurance products (Medicare supplement, cancer and long-term care and disability) are sold through independent agents and a captive agency force.
